There are things that are invisible but do exist. Things that cannot be seen, smelled, or touched often have a huge impact on mankind. As civilization develops, the impact tends to become stronger.
The coronavirus and its infection status have become a global concern. Viruses which cannot be seen and the number of infected people transmitted through statistical information all have a profound impact on society even though we can’t sense them physically. Offline events that require an audience are replaced in a virtual space as an infection prevention measure. Virus, statistical information, virtual space...everything is beyond the realm of the human senses.
This project finds what is invisible but still exists and explores how it affects the real world. The exhibition space, rendered with pure white material, expresses the real world dominated by invisible things such as digitized information. The virtual space, which can only be experienced through the HMD, is full of colorful spheres, and breathing-like movement of each sphere feels more real than reality. The movement of the sphere which can be detected only in the virtual world represents an increase and decrease in the number of infected people with various attributes such as race, age, and gender. In the exhibition, by sequentially implying a virtual-like reality and real-like virtuality, we intended to bring out questions about the realm of human senses and beyond.
On the other hand, we wanted to express the opportunity of expansion in technological and artistic horizons amid the tough times of pandemic through various spheres that are simply beautiful to look at.
